Excavating/Utility Laborer

Responsibilities

As an Excavating/Utility Laborer:

• Shoveling; Raking; Mix Mortar.
• Operate handheld concrete saw; Jumping jack compactor; tapping machine
• Confined space entry
• Locate buried utility lines (gas, phone, etc.)
• Work inside of a trench box
• Maintain safety in the trench & equipment
• Join plastic pipe & fittings, ductile iron pipe & fittings
• Set castings & valve boxes to grade.
• Set manholes; Grades & Elevations; Set-up pipe laser; Read grade stakes
• Connect watermain (cut-ins, turning water off, wet taps)
• Proper bed of pipes; Hydrant Extensions; test watermain, sewer main
• Communicate with backhoe operator
• Hook pipe & structures to backhoe
• Keep slings & cables in good condition, notifying when replacement is needed
• Fill in wherever needed to get the job done
• Majority of field work, may be on your feet most of the working day, may require some heavy lifting, some operation of equipment may be required
• Reading, writing, basic math skills
